The new Women on Wings corporate movie illustrates why Women on Wings works in India and how the organization contributes to creating employment and income for rural women. The movie will premiere today at the business event ‘Understanding Fundraising’ at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, Rotterdam. Maria van der Heijden, co-founder Women on Wings: “In this film women tell what the impact is of having a job and income. These women work for our business partner Jharcraft and they make exquisite handicraft products. Women on Wings works with Jharcraft to increase sales of these products to consumers in Indian cities. The shooting for this film was done in India by filmmaker Lex Dekker.”
“Women are the backbone of Indian society. But in rural India, there are little or poorly paid jobs for them. For their livelihood, they depend on others. Women on Wings is working with social enterprises in India to create employment for 1 million women. That’s good for the local economy and quality of life in these rural areas. If women have their own income, it improves their own position and that of their families. Children get to eat well every day and go to school. Also the girls. Thus, the next generation has more opportunities and the cycle of poverty is broken.”
