On 13 November 2014, Maria van der Heijden and Ellen Tacoma, co-founders of Women on Wings, received the first copy of the Dutch book ‘Nieuwe Business Modellen’. This book is based on three years of research, led by Professor Jan Jonker, and co-authored by more than 50 innovative and creative thinkers in The Netherlands.
The event took place in a fully packed Dom Church in Utrecht where as many as 450 people gathered to share their ideas about ‘the new economy’. Maria and Ellen shared the Women on Wings business model in a workshop with forty participants: ‘Human Capital: talent als business model’.
Key-note speakers and workshop moderators inspired the visitors of the symposium to explore new perspectives in our economy, to create value by sharing and swapping goods and services. In short, to create a ‘business with a purpose’.
The book that was launched at the symposium is an inspiring collection of real-life stories that can be used as a guide to start a (social) enterprise, a cooperation or sustainable initiative. It is also meant as a guide for existing organizations to create new business models. The business model of Women on Wings is also featured in this hands-on book.
Maria: “Women on Wings is an inspiring new business model, because it is based on sharing knowledge as economic value. The human capital within and around Women on Wings is based on tremendous capacity of human beings by exchanging and sharing talents, skills and knowledge.”
