A cost-pricing workshop to grow sales

Brrr. Due to the surrounding Thar Desert’s winter temperatures, it was super chilly in Bikaner, north Rajasthan during recent consultations Women on Wings carried out. But things warmed up during two days of productive cost-pricing discussions, brainstorming and planning with our social enterprise partner Bahula Naturals‘ CEO and founder Aakriti Srivastava and team.

Women on Wings business consultant Chanakya Mehta and expert Liesbeth Rutgers began the workshop with the why, how and what of a solid financial model and the need for transparency in cost pricing for Bahula products.

A detailed discussion included the importance of creating and deeply analyzing a Profit and Loss statement. A P & L is generated by these sequentially interdependent steps:

Step 1: Cost + sales prices / costs of goods sold (COGS) / gross margin
Step 2: OPEX Operational expenses
Step 3: Balance sheet (Assets – liabilities = equity)
Step 4 Cash flow statement (Operating, investing and financing activities)
Step 5: Budgeting + forecasting

And the next day we focused on how they were realistically going to reach their dreams by developing Bahula’s three-year business plan.

Bahula brings agri-dairy products directly to consumers and enhances the incomes and lives of agri-pastoral communities – the “Bahulaverse” – a collective of 4,000+ rainfed farmers, indigenous cattle, camel (think: Camel brie), sheep & goat milk producers.

Women on Wings partners with Bahula due to its focus on bringing more jobs and empowering more women living in rural India.
