The Women on Wings advertisement is the absolute winner of the Dutch NRC Charity Awards 2016. On Wednesday evening August 31, Peter Vandermeersch, Editor in Chief at NRC, presented the Award ceremony at Pakhuis de Zwijger, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Winning the first prize means another publication of the Women on Wings ad in NRC Handelsblad and nrc.next, which values 77,500 euro.
Outspoken ad with strong visuals
This year NRC Charity Awards worked different from previous years. Students from Willem de Kooning Academy made the ads whereas in previous years participating organizations had to send in their own ad. The Women on Wings ad was designed by student Isabelle Griffioen. According to the jury, her design was the absolute number one because of the innovative, clear and strong use of visuals, creating an outstanding ad. It also showed great passion and dedication in making the ad.
The Awards
This year, a total of 225 Dutch charities applied for the NRC Charity Awards out of which 23 nominees were awarded with an ad. A professional jury comprizing Peter Vandermeersch, Pepijn Rooijens (Creative Director Lemz), Krista Rozema (Art Director KesselsKramer) en Nils Adriaans (Editor in Chief Creatie) assessed the 23 nominated ads on design, the use of visuals and the power of the message. A shared second place was for Centrum Internationale Kinderontvoering and Microkrediet voor Moeders. The Audience Award was for Koninklijke Nederlandse Redding Maatschappij which got the most votes from the public.
