Women on Wings started collaborating with Avani in the Kumaon in the Central Himalayas, one of the highest mountain ranges of the world. Due to the isolated location in the state of Uttarakhand, the rural communities face isolation and consequent problems.
Avani initiated work on developing and disseminating appropriate technologies for meeting the energy and water requirements of the local villages. It promotes craft based and farm based livelihood opportunities to rural communities like the dissemination of solar technology, water resource management, and natural textiles and paints. Women spin natural dyed yarns on solar-powered spinning wheels. A great mix of technology and traditional craft.
Avani also works on the social and economic development of rural communities with projects such as healthcare and micro-finance.
Women on Wings collaborates with Avani on further optimizing the organization and its resources with the joint goal to create more employment for women.
