100,000 jobs for Indian women

Women on Wings has reached a very special milestone: 100,000 women in rural India now have jobs thanks to the collaboration between Women on Wings and socially responsible Indian enterprises committed to creating jobs for these women. The sixty Women on Wings experts share their knowledge pro bono with the entrepreneurs to help them expand their businesses and create more jobs for women.

260,000 children in school
Of the 1.2 billion people in India, 700 to 800 million living in the countryside are forced to live on less than 2 dollars a day. A job and an income provide women in rural India with greater self-sufficiency, purchasing power and a better social position. These 100,000 jobs mean two meals a day and a better existence for 100,000 Indian families. It also means more money is spent on (better) education for their children: 100,000 jobs means 260,000 children in school.

Growth
Founders Ellen Tacoma and Maria van der Heijden: “This fantastic milestone means everything is going according to plan. The opening of a new office in India and the economic situation in the Netherlands made this a challenging and exciting year for us. Three of our clients (Jharcraft, Fabric Plus and Jaipur Rugs) managed to realize their enormous job potential earlier this year.”

Ronald van het Hof, Managing Director of Women on Wings India: “Thanks in part to our local presence in India, we can respond more quickly and more frequently to our clients demands. We’ve also seen a significant increase in the number of Indian organizations interested in working with us. This ranges from speaking engagements and seminars, to collaboration requests. A surprising number of Indians are interested in working with us.”
