Women on Wings social enterprise partner since July 2023
Gangpur Ventures Private Limited (Gangpur Ventures) is creating livelihood opportunities for tribal communities in the Indian Chotanagpur region, which covers most of the state of Jharkhand, plus the adjacent states of Odisha and Chhattisgarh. It is dedicated to empowering and uplifting rural farmers, with a strong focus on women.
Gangpur Ventures addresses the fodder scarcity in the dairy farming industry. It produces and provides fodder to commercial dairy farms by organizing tribal farmers into ‘Producer Groups’ to cultivate the maize crop, which is then purchased by Gangpur Ventures on pre-agreed terms. This way, the farms are assured of year-round availability of fresh stock for their customers as well as better livelihoods for the tribal farmers.
Its founder, Bimal Lakra, a social development professional with over 14 years of experience in the field of grassroots development, has extensively worked with rural and backward communities for their socio-economic progress. In 2021, he took his work towards sustainable rural development to the next level by establishing Gangpur Ventures.
In July 2023, Women on Wings and Gangpur Ventures entered a partnership which aims to scale the social enterprise and co-create more employment opportunities for rural women farmers.
